My favorite TV shows!

Twin Peaks - by David Lynch & Mark Frost. (1990 - 1991)

A surrealist mystery-horror drama series written and directed by the oh-so-legendary David Lynch and his good friend and co-writer Mark Frost.

Following the main character, a FBI agent named Special Agent Dale Cooper (I love Coop so much!) as he travels into the fictional Pacific-Northwest town of Twin Peaks to investigate the murder of a 17-year-old girl named Laura Palmer. Baiting the audience into thinking it is a normal crime-drama if the viewer was not already familar with Lynch's work, it takes a paranormal turn. Aided by Lynch's love for surrealist visuals.

Personal...Twin Peaks is a very special show to me! I resonate a lot with the characters (Especially Laura...Oh Laura...) as well as it being a show me and my family enjoy!! My dad, my mom and my aunt and uncle dressed as Twin Peaks characters for halloween one year! My dad being Cooper and my mother being The Log Lady(?)...I need to find these old photos LOL. I also am a very very huge fan of David Lynch's...well everything. I think he's fucking brilliant. I think that watching this show has changed how I write my characters for the better!

Invader Zim - by Jhonen Vasquez (2001 - 2002)

A horror-comedy animated series created by then-comic-artist Jhonen Vasquez.

About an alien invader, Zim, who is trying to take over the earth but fails miserably almost every time. Accompanied by his robot servent Gir, and is persued by a 12-year-old boy named Dib who is a wannabe paranormal investegator who often puts a halt to Zim's stupid plans.

Personal...Oh god, this was the most formative shows I have ever watched. I remember i did not discover it by accident, no...My MOM showed me this!! My mother has always been a conissuer of creepy shit for kids, as she didnt have it growing up...So naturally her course of action was to show it to her daughter. This show certainly was a major inspiration to me to pick up the pen and draw. Some of my oldest artworks from when i was like...10 is my old Invader Zim OCs, Gir, and the main cast drawn as cats...Because i sucked ass at drawing people LMFAO. Also...my first EVER cosplay was GIR!! My mom made me my very own Gir hoodie with her bare fucking hands. I still have it lol.

Hannibal - by Bryan Fuller (2013 - 2015)

A psychological-horror thriller series created by Bryan Fuller for NBC. An adaptation of the characters in the books Red Dragon, Hannibal Rising & Hannibal by Thomas Harris.

Following yet another FBI agent, named Will Graham who is assigned his very own forsenic psychiatrist named Hannibal Lecter after it becomes evident to Will's higher-up that the cases he is working on are weighing on him heavily.Little does Will, or anyone for that matter, know that Hannibal is a cannibalistic serial killer and is pulling the strings of the FBI itself from the inside.

Personal...OOUOHH I LOVE THIS SHOWWWWW...I watched this for the first time when I was like 16 and it fuckin blew my little mind. I am always a sucker for Mads Mikkelson in any sort of intimdating role and him being casted as one of my favorite fictional evils...What more could a weird girl ask for really. I dont have much a super personal tie to this show like previous entries i just like almost everything about it! I find the washed-out filter on like every bit of this show so nice...Also the kills are fucking fantastic. And did you know this show inspired by my beloved OC, Shrike? It's probably really obvious now that I say it...Also all the Hannibal x Will art that is produced from this show is just splendid.

My favorite Movies!

More to be added later...

Eraserhead - by David Lynch (1997)

A surrealist body-horror film made by David Lynch(The man, the myth, the legend.)

If I'm being honest I don't know how to give a proper summary of this movie! LOOOOOL. I guess the best way to describe it is a now-single father struggling to take care of his mutant newborn in a desolate industial world.

Personal...I watched this movie when I was about...15? 16? As I had heard stuff around the internet about how this movie was soooo disturbing! And also I thought the Eraserhead baby was so super cute. I think watching this movie really cemented by tastes for surrealism and industrial settings...Though I never got the courage to execute my tastes via my art until I got a little older and wasnt afraid to draw weird shit.

Natural Born Killers - by Oliver Stone (1994)

A romanance crime-action film by Oliver Stone that was written by Quentin Tarantino

A highly controversial film upon its release due to its overly graphic and frankly disgustingly trashy nature, it follows a pair of lovers - Mickey & Mallory Knox as they got on a mass-murdering spree and become glorified by the media.

Personal...I do love this movie for its over the top disgustingly violent nature to the point of comedy, though i do have some issues with it. The cinematography is so kick ass, same with the sound track...Hell yes Nine Inch Nails on the score!! Also Woody Harrelson and Juliette Lewis look so hot in this movie. I can't ever get their outfits from the opening of the movie out of my head...My parents fucking HATE this movie, given they were alive for its release, my mom thinks its just violent shlock (she litterally has no room to talk bruh) but I always thought it was a fun watch.

Tokyo Gore Police - by Yoshihiro Nishimura (2008)

A sci-fi horror film by Yoshihiro Nishimura, who worked as special effects artist on many horror films, most noteably Noboru Iguchi's 'The Machine Girl'.

It follows a police officer named Ruka as she strives to hunt down the man who killed her father - Taking place in dystopian Japan where people modify their bodies to become mutants that often have biomechical weapons attached to them in some capacity.

Personal... This movie is so over the top LOL. The practical effects, the score, the comedy interspliced within...Also its really gross! What more could you ask for! Geysers of blood and guts and all that, you know, what a good horror movie needs. I think any movie that melds bondage and fetish gear with body horror and gore instantly gets good reviews from me. Also Ruka is so well dressed it makes me want to cry.

The Reflecting Skin - by Philip Ridley (1990)

A coming-of-age horror film by Philip Ridley.

A story about a 8-year-old boy named Seth Dove who lives in rural Idaho who belives his neighbor, a quiet british woman named Dolphin Blue, is a vampire and is responsible for the dissapearences of several children in his town.

Personal...One of my favorite movies ever made, everything about it strikes the right chords with me. The rural enviornments, the horribly gut-wrenching twists it throws at you, as well as the themes of childhood. Even if parts of this movie are grotesque and upsetting in the best ways possible. I first discovered this movie when it was paired with a snippit of Ethel Cain's song Amber Waves and I went to go watch the movie myself...It was a very fitting film for the visuals of that song. (guy who only thinks of her OCs voice) Reminds me very much of what vibe I'd like to capture for Cain Complex.

My favorite Comics!

...And Manga! More to be added later...

Johnny The Homicidal Maniac - by Jhonen Vasquez (1995 - 1997)

Everyone who knows me just sighed at the sight of this comic on here. Yeah Vi...We get it...

...Anyway...JTHM is a dark-comedy horror comic made by Jhonen Vasquez.

Following a disturbed serial killer and mass murderer, Johnny C. as he does...Whatever the hell that Johnny does, the viewers trying to peel back his psyche to see if he is an irrideemble murderer on his own volition or there is some other forces at play that make him do such things.

Personal...Oh I have so much to say about this fuck ass comic but I will spare everyone on the extensive details...But I remember finding this series at age 9-10 or something (My memory is so poor, espeically regarding my age oops) via a Youtube video...A PMV to NeuroticFish's 'Theyre coming to take me away'...In the back of my subconcious mind JTHM has always been a massive influence to me given my love for sickly-looking mentally unwell twinks.

I picked it back up again as an adult and fell in love FAST AND HARD. This series was made for weird bitches like me! Even if Mr.Vasquez hates goths...Sorry Mr.Vasquez! Johnny is a little ugly but it's okay I still love him.

Wet Moon - by Sophie Campbell (2005 - 2018?)

A series graphic novels made by Sophie Campbell that centers on a large cast of college-age people, typically in goth/alternative subcultures, and the struggles that come with being in the late teens-early 20s age bracket.

Personal...A typically find myself struggling to enjoy slice-of-life comics and such but given that I am, yknow, the type of person this comic is about. A goth girl in her 20's - I naturally fond myself relating to a lot of the girls in this comic. And speaking of girls, I think everyone should take notes on how Sophie Campbell draws/designs her female characters, oh my god!

As the author took some time between some of the volumes, naturally her artstyle shifted and changed and personally I think seeing her artistic growth as the comic progressed was one of my favorite parts about it as well as not straying away from serious topics, even if they could be handled a little bit better. in some aspects. All in all - I really loved Wet Moon. It inspired me to try and work on my own little slice-of-life comics with my characters...

...I just thought the ending was super clumsy and kinda shitty...LOL.

Mob Psycho 100 - by ONE (2012 - 2017)

A shonen manga created by ONE that was first serialized in 2012 as a webcomic.

It follows Shigeo Kageyama, a young boy with strong psychic abilties he struggles to control, keeping himself emotionally repressed to maintain his composure so he can live a normal life.

Personal...Oh Mob Psycho...How I love you. One of the first mangas I read and ENJOYED. I typically DESPISE shonen manga (not the target audience!) but mp100 is so perfectly silly and serious that it hits that sweet spot for me. Seeing ONE's art develop as the comic went on was a treat as well.

I hope to god ONE plans on doing more with these characters of his because I am not joking when I say I have been endeared to like...Every single one of them. Even if theyre a villan Or Reigen. I cannot help but like them...

Also...Well...(Points to my badge that says 'I was an active participant of the Sans VS Reigen Twitter Polls.)

I Feel Sick - by Jhonen Vasquez (1999 - 2000)

A spin-off comic of Johnny The Homicidal Maniac by Jhonen Vasquez that follows Devi D., the woman that Johnny went on a date with and survived, as she tries to push past the supernatural forces that seem to be the same onces that pushed Johnny to insanity as well as dealing with the pain and suffering that comes with doing art for a publishing company.

Personal...I have a stromg kindredship with Devi, being an artist who sometimes drawing makes me want to tear my fucking hair out as well as getting so hyperfixated on it all that I can't really do anything else until its all 'good enough'. I am, not, however, haunted by Evil Forces like she was...I also think its funny how similar Tenna is, Devi's over-exictable best friend, is to Gir. Her and Devi's relationship sort of reminding me of a proto-Zim and Gir...

i, ONCE AGAIN, hope that Jhonen does more with this universe. I miss my girls..I miss them a lot...

My favorite Games!

More to be added later...Maybe. I dont play a lot of games.

Silent Hill (Series)

A series of survival horror games (and...other things COUGHPACHINKOCOUGH) published by Konami, the first installment, Silent Hill releasing in 1999 for PlayStation. Known for its dark themes it tends to touch on and extreme surrealism.

Personal... Once again one of those series that made me pick up my pen...I remember the first things I drew in MSpaint with my mouse were my very own Silent Hill-inspired monsters! Should 9 year old Vi have been doing that? ...No! But yknow...! Whatever! I remember my mom had a PlayStation in her room where she'd play Silent Hill 3 and I'd sit beside her and watch. I wasn't scared of that but found myself more frightened at The Sims...Okay.

Funfact - This series is partly inspired by Twin Peaks! As well as other David Lynch works. Isn't it fun when your interests tie nicely back into eachother? I've only managed to play a handful of the Silent Hill games...Poor PC, no consoles, and I'm terrible with emulators but one day...I will play them all! I am determined to do so. My first game in the series was HOMECOMING...While it's not...Baddddd...per se. It has good ideas, good designs and of course a masterful soundtrack by Akira Yamaoka...The gameplay was literally like pulling fucking teeth. It was BAD. WHOEVER DECIDED TO ADD QTE TO SILENT HILL GAMES IM GOING TO FUCKING FIND YOU.

This series has brainrotted me to the core so badly, I remember when I was in ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. LIKE 4TH GRADE. Taking part in our classic recess game 'cats vs dogs' as one of the horrible fucked up dog creatures from any one of the games...I also met my girlfriend because of Silent Hill! With us becoming friends in 2016 because I had a Robbie The Rabbit profile picture. LOL.

Postal (Series)

A series of first-person shooter games developed by Running With Scissors, embroiled in controversy upon the first game, Postal's release in 1997. Known for its black / off-color comedy and violence.

Personal... As much as I hate to admit but I am a new-gen Postal fan!! I know, I know, Boo this woman...I've been aware of this games existence for many years but was advised away from playing it from shitty people that used to be in my life because they said it would do bad things to my little brain when I was a teen. Now that I am a grown ass woman with hair on her fucking knuckles I decided to get into what (cough) SOME people treat as the video game industry's BOOGEYMAN. Truth be told I have been having a blast playing through the games...So far I've played Postal, Postal 2 and Postal Brain-Damaged. I might pick up Postal 4 but I'm waiting to see if they fix it up just a little bit.

I think people treating this game series like it's the spawn of satan due to its violent nature and crude humor are stupid - beyond stupid, even. Purtainism needs to die, if you dont like blood and guts thats ok! I just think if you demonize others for liking it you need to like...Self-reflect? idk, lets all go frolic in a big field instead and respect eachothers tastes...I got kind of distrated, sorry. ANYWAY!!!! this is a great series to help me blow off some steam. Postal Dude is such a breath of fresh air in FPS protagonists bc he's funny as fuuuuuuck. LMFAO

The Binding Of Isaac

A rouge-like game first made in Adobe Flash and released in 2011, paired with one expansion in 2012, Wrath of the Lamb. and a remake following just a few years later - The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, Relasing in 2014. Followed by serveral expansions to Rebirth...Afterbirth & Afterbirth+ (2015), Repentence (2016) and Repentence+ (2024)

Personal...Another formative game to little larval Vi...I remember playing the flash version on Newgrounds on my old shitty Windows XP computer and loving it, even though I was (and still am) complete garbage at it. When I watched someone else play it fully on Youtube, I made a massive drawing of EVERY...YES EVERY, enemy in the base Flash version together with Isaac on posterboard and FINISHED IT. I was so very proud of it and I dont think I have it anymore?? Which sucks!

I gotta admit, I have a deep attachment to the main character, Isaac. He makes me so sad :[ Espeically in the expansions and hearing him talk to his father in one of the endings...It broke me honestly! I have cried real tears over him...Which is sort of cringe but idgaf. In my heart, Isaac is alive and well and is with his father. (Massive amounts of copium)
