"It's not stupid! - It's advaaaaanced!"

A Shrine dedicated to GIR! The dearly beloved green-dog-disguised robot from Invader Zim (2000 - 2006) !
Also, apparently an icon in Scene kid culture but I'm not a scene kid, so...I don't know anything about all that.

...So...What is this little freak's deal?...

GIR... Standing for GInformational Retrieval Unit...What is the G there for & what does it stand for? Well, he doesn't know... Assigned to Invader Zim during the start of Operation Impending Doom II as a half-assed attempt to get Zim off of their ass as he begged for his very own SIR Unit....GIR was cobbled together out of spare parts and garbage, resulting in his...Unique and Beautiful mind.

GIR is Zim's henchman by the loosest definition of the word...Often disobeying Zim like a poorly-trained dog. When ordered what to do, his glowy-bits turn red and just as you think he might do something Zim instructed for once...He returns to normal and goes back to whatever nonsense he was doing before or may even completely fuck up what Zim had told him to do in the first place.

Despite his 'Masters' ideals on Earth and Human Culture, GIR seems to like it. Well...The food aspects. He is often seen choking down earth food such as Waffles, Tacos, Pizza, Canned Tuna, Candy... As well as mountains of other forms of junk food. As well as VARIOUS inedible objects.

He isn't particularly skilled at blending in with Human Life either...Dawning his main disguise, a green and black dog costume with a large zipper down the stomach. Paired with large bug-eyes and a tiny pink lolling tongue. (As well as various other shitty disguises but thats neither here nor there.) Though, despite his horrible cover he seems to blend in shockingly well. People not suspecting anything of him even when he is dancing in the middle of a rave in his dog-costume...And even managing to make friends with human women in the process.

Truly, this is GIR's world and we're all living in it.

...Trivia Time!!...

- GIR is voiced by Rosearik Rikki Simons, someone who Jhonen Vasquez chose because he had no prior voice acting experince and thought his weird preformance would do a good job at showing how much of dysfunctional machine GIR is. Simons also did a good chunk of coloring on the show, as well was a colorist for Jhonen's comic, I Feel Sick.
- According to an unfinished episode (Invader Poonchy) it's revealed GIR stores meat in his dog costume to give it a more fleshy consistency.
- Seems to have a deep affection for pigs.
- In the anime Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt , the girls pet...thing named Chuck bares a striking resemblance to GIR, to which Jhonen Vasquez said in an interview - "…took GIR out of the whorehouse he was working in and gave him a new job! It's nice seeing him get some work,". and proceeded to imply that at some point, after the show, GIR became deeply addicted to heroin.
- Responsible for eating a baby - or perhaps multiple.

...Bloody GIR!!...

Legend says the Invader Zim crew were so fed up with Nickelodeon so they inserted hidden frames of GIR covered in blood to show their true frustration with the network- Naw I'm just fuckin' with you. Bloody GIR is totally real and has been inserted in at least fourteen episodes...
Why exactly was bloody GIR inserted into these episodes...Well, the answer may shock you...It was for a bit. Drawn on a whim, the team never thought it would get into the show and so inserted it at very low opacities in several frames. To which it became an 'urban legend' of sorts among fans.

Nickelodeon only found out about Bloody GIR after Invader Zim had ended. Though funnily enough they didn't really care.

The easiest Bloody GIR to spot is in the episode Mortos der Soulstealer in the intro sequence - When the part where the pipes come close to the screen, you can see a very clear Bloody GIR...Oooh Scary!

...MISC THOUGHTS!...

I never really know what to put in the personal sections of these...Why do I take such a deep affection for GIR?...Well I suppose you could say he was my first real comfort character!

Back when I was VERY small, my mother introduced me to Invader Zim since it was a HIT with people her age...I instantly became deeply infatuated with GIR, his strange mannerisms reminding me of my little neurotic self. Halloween came around, and I wanted to be GIR so my mom hand-made me my very own GIR hoodie! (That I still have...)
As an adult I find myself very endeared to him due to him being a time-capsule or I suppose the root of LOLRANDUMXD internet humor. I'm sorry, nowadays it feels so forced...You just had to be there. I can't even lie, rewatching it recently he still does make me laugh. The best to ever do it, honestly.

Also something something scene culture I'm a old goth bitch I don't know anything about all that. Good on you guys though, please keep my little guy alive and well.
