PERSONALITY: extremely dry and inexpressive, shrike is not a people person in the slighest. his emotional walls are very high and most of the time you can never really tell exactly what he's thinking. he is notoriously very quiet, almost to an intimidating degree, preferring if others do the talking for him. though if he does to choose to speak he is blunt and prone to being passive aggressive but somehow manages to also be almost to polite. he tends to be overly-formal with his wording and has trouble expressing how things make him feel.
shrike has a very habit of supressing his emotions until they all come spilling out, thinking he can simply shoulder the weight of all his crippling life trauma but most of the time it doesnt end well for him. he is prone to large-scale mental breaks that are almost always directed inwards at himself rather than others. he is neurotic and on-edge almost at all times though he claims he 'has it all figured out' when he is just simply skilled at masking.
generally very distrustful of society at large - he always tends to be skeptical of others to an almost misanthropic degree. though he is trying to be more open and friendly to others he deems trustworthy nowadays. though he tends to run low on empathy for others, specfically for those he does not know. however he is fiercely protective over those he loves.

CHILDHOOD
In the corner, on my birthday - you watched me dancing right there in the grass. i was too young to notice that some types of love could be bad.
shrike was born to a lower-class family in near-rural west virignia. his oldest sister, cyta and his older brother, strix. shrike's conception and birth was completely accidental which instilled a feeling on contempt towards him by his already-depressed mother and he didn't seem to capture the interest to his distant father. it certainly didn't help that his mother's mental decline worsened upon shrike's birth, leaving her in a near-permenent state of post-partum psychosis. this led him to being neglected as an infant, mostly taken care of and watched over by his older sister who felt, even as a 5-6 year old, she had a responsibly over her little brother. as a small child shrike had almost succumbed to various illnesses and injuries due to neglect which caused him to grow into a sort of a 'runt'. which was a subject of bullying from his father and brother.
as he got older, he came the subject of obsession for his older brother who began to mirror the abusive tendancies of the siblings' father. shrike began to depend heavily on strix, cowering behind his leg any time he felt scared, overwhelmed or upset. when his brothers abuse started up, shrike stopped attending school. dropping out in the 6th grade after periods of spotty attendance and questions about his wellbeing from school faculty. shrike would lie to protect his brother - or moreso he viewed what was happening to him as normal behavior due to the rampet cycle of abuse and pain that infested his family.
ADOLESENCE
because we all live in a wounded house and living here will be the death of me - someone's got to be the death of me.
into his teens, shrike was isolated almost entirely from the outside world - the abuse worsened to the point that anything shrike did was under his brothers scrutinity. it had escalated to this level due to the carelessness of his parents and his older sister going off to college. he was not allowed friends, he couldn't go outside on his own and would spend most of his time by his brothers side even if he didn't want to.
then as shrike grew older, watching the world go by from what felt like the outside, he slowly began to see his brother for what he was - a monster. his rose-tinted view began to dissapate, their relationship schisming. strix became terrified that he was going to loose shrike so the violence intensified. shrike was smart enough to form a plan on how to periodically sneak out of the house as strix was away at work or alseep and snuck into the neighboring cities to socialize with other people - where he met his long time friend, an oni named ikurou and a human woman named annette. he was finally realizing that he needed to get away once and for all or else strix would kill him.
shrike eventually would loose an eye to strix, his brother gouging it out during an altercation. shrike ran to ikurou with a bloody hole in his face and even still refused to tell the police about the pain he was being subjected to. and then after that his brother raked his claws down shrikes back giving him large, gaping wounds and nearly causing him to bleed out in annette's arms. - it all came to a head one summer day. at age 25, when all the siblings were together. strix and shrike got into a fight which escalated quickly into violence. shrike, his insides rotten with hatred for his brother, stabbed him to death with a flat-head screwdriver. a murder caused by so much malice and anger the screwdriver broke in two and strix had be stabbed over 40+ times - including the eye. by that time strix had mangled the left side of shrikes face in masses of scar tissue.
at the time of the murder, shrikes older sister was there to witness it. though she didn't feel a sense of horror or disgust. she didn't cry. she never liked strix to begin with. so she helped shrike cover it all up. she couldn't even bring herself to cry at his funeral. after it was all said and done, after years of being hurt and violated by his brother, shrike was finally free and escaped to start a life with his now-fiance annette. though he may have escaped physically the lasting grip strix has on shrikes mind is apparent.
ADULTHOOD / CURRENT

as he ventured into the outside world, it had been clear that shrikes sense of morals became twisted and distorted. he became convinced soceity had a 'food chain' that could be climbed, that some people had to die to climb the chain and ensure safety. he became heavily involved with shady dealings, mostly the buisness of illegal meat selling. trafficking meat of monsters and humans alike to those with a 'refined palette', shrike being one of those people. using his learned skills of butchering and hunting he became well-revered and eventually climbed his way to the top, loss of life of others be damned. anything to secure safety of his family.
opening a buisness to act as a front for his activites of people-butchery, racketeering and contract killing (and any other job he may be tasked to do). his wife not only is aware but is a willing accomplice.
shrike claims what he is doing is morally just, that this is what animals do in nature - killing and eating one-another to survive. believes all of what he does is done with respect and grace - he even has a moral code when it comes down to it.

ANNETTE VICARIOWIFE
annette is shrike's wife - the two life-bonded to one another like a pair of mourning doves. they have been married for 10 years. they know eachother inside-and-out and have been with eachother through thick and thin. the two married in a shitty church in las vegas and spent their honeymoon there in dingy honeymoon hotels, treating themselves after the death of shrike's brother.
shrike is very protective of annette, (and vice versa!), viewing her as the best thing that's ever happened to him, the thing he cherishes most in this god-forsaken world, and who he would do anything for if she simply asked. Meeting through a mutual friend (ikurou) in their early 20s, the two got along shockingly well for how much their personalities clashed. shrike at the time, was meek and afraid of nearly everything. on edge as he was still being abused at home. and annette was very loud and overly confident, which is really what shrike needed to get him out of his shell after ikurou had up and left just a few years before their marriage.
now , the two have been together for what feels like forever. most of their major issues in their relationships have been ironed outside aside from their constant bickering back and forth over menial things, though it doesn't seem to get in the way of much. managing to maintain a mortica-gomez-esque relationship even after years together, the two fit together like a puzzle piece.
annette is fully aware of what shrike does for his actual job description and has no problems with it; if anything, she is an accomplice to his misdeeds. she has no issue with immoral deeds for money as she has become completely desensitized to the underbelly of man and monsterkind alike.
IKUROU STEELEBEST FRIEND
shrike and ikurou are very close friends, their friendship spanning back to when theyre were dumb boys in their early 20s. so close in fact that ikurou was the first person shike went to when he was scared or heavily injured. often spending large amounts of time cooped up in ikurou's apartment to escape what was waiting for him at home.
as the two got older, ikurou got his 'big break and' disappeared. shrike felt betrayed and confused that ikurou would leave him there completely unaware of the circumstances surrounding his departure. this left shrike with some sour feelings towards his best friend, feeling abandoned and betrayed. though after years of no contact, suddenly shrike received a phone call from his good friend, tearfully explaining to him that he'd been dragged down into a life of depravity in the music industry that left him addicted to coke and homeless. shrike proposed ikurou stay with him and annette (in the basement bedroom) until he got back on his feet and finished rehab.
ikurou and shrike have almost a rivalry of sorts, only two best friends could have. teasing each other over literally everything and roughhousing. mild homoerotic tension, naturally.
KASVI AOBEST FRIEND
kasvi and shrike have a rather laid-back relationship, meeting after ikurou brought her over for a “one-night stand” that was, in fact, MULTIPLE nights if not weeks in a row. arguably the most laid back in this friend group, the two have lots in common. finding common ground in their love for books and music.
shrike feels bad for kasvi, sensing the poor woman had a good few screws loose from the moment he had met her. he urges her to finally get out there and is trying to assist in easing her out of her agoraphobia-induced paranoia. albeit he is probably a bit more strict and clinical with this than annette or ikurou.
he sees a lot of himself when he was younger in her hence why his soft spot for her is so great. he hopes she can similarly come out of her shell and stop being afraid and to not let her abuser take power of her whole life even after death.

MISC STUFF PAGE
MISC FACTShas a flat affect. affecting his face and ability to express emotions properly mainly though he tends to speak very dryly and its hard to glean what exactly he's feeling at any given moment.
left eye is completely gone and the socket is scarred over. though he's lived so long without it he has almost completely adjusted to it. however he still struggles with depth perception and eye-strain.
he writes things down near-obsessively. plans, dates, details, thoughts, etc. all kept in multiple notebooks. doesn't like to forget a single thing.
has a fondness for leather and latex. favors leather harnesses and pants.
typically presents as masculine but depending on the occasion will lean towards androgynous or feminine. main issue is that a lot of feminine clothes don't fit his frame so he has to get annette to adjust them.
likes eating raw meat, bone and organs because he thinks it keeps him strong and in shape. he is still underweight despite this due to just not eating enough in general. sometimes eats garbage and other inedible things due to ocd-induced pica.
BIOLOGY
mother is a drow, father is a mix of various luciferian species but primarly incubus. shrike's genetic species makeup is muddled, hence giving him chimera status.
has pawpads on his hands and feet. they feel squishy and soft to the touch much like a felines. he's a bit insecure about them.
tail is prehensile. how his tail moves may be a better indicator on how he's feeling rather than his face.
long, forked tongue with ridged papillae down the sides and middle that are designed to help him tear flesh from bone.
fucked up GI tract lets him consume nearly anything without consequence. has the stomach stomach acid ph as a vulture. nearly immune to food-based illness as well as contaminents. this also allows him to eat garbage without much drawback. gross.
he can purr. sounds like a mountian lion purring.
jacobson's organ in the top of his mouth behind his front teeth. will open his mouth to get a better smell of things but if its smell he's confused or disgusted by will make a very obvious facial reaction to it.
if he loses teeth he can simply regrow them but is at risk for dental impactions or hyperdontia.
feet are like an opposum's and can basically act as second set of hands. his wife finds this creepy.
